Utes and Ethnobotany

Join local ethnobotanist, Lynn Albers, as she discusses the Ute peoples and their use of Colorado flora.  The Utes, or Nuche as they call themselves, were the historic indigenous peoples who lived in the Colorado High Country.  Lynn’s discussion will focus on readily recognizable native plants that grow in Eagle County today.

Lynn Albers is the local history and ethnobotany specialist at Vail Public Library.  She is also a member of the Cultural Heritage Committee for the Town of Vail.  In addition to serving as a trainer for the CSU Extension Native Plant Master program, Lynn has enjoyed studying the cultural uses of plants for nearly five decades.  Her graduate work is in Cultural Resource Management and she has consulted for various Ute ethnobotany and Ute ethnohistory projects.
