The Story of the Gardens

Summer Public Tours

Public tours are available Memorial Day – Labor Day on Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Please meet your guide at the Education Center and plan to arrive 10 minutes early. Tours max at 15 guests, buy your ticket beforehand to ensure your spot. $15 per person.

Self-guided Tours

A map of the Gardens is on display at the entrance kiosks along with brochures. Enjoy the winding pathways, informative panels, outdoor exhibit and alpine plants at your own pace.

Winter Snowshoe Tours

GUIDED

Winter Tree Trail
Wednesdays 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

A Gardens naturalist will take you on an easy guided snowshoe tour. Turn your eyes up to the trees to understand their role in the mountain ecosystem. Warm up afterward with a cup of hot chocolate and engage in drop-in activities available in the Education Center. Sign up online to secure your spot and plan to arrive 10 minutes before your tour and dress warm.

Cost: $15 Includes snowshoe rental.

SELF-GUIDED

A self-guided Tree Trail snowshoe tour is available mid-December through March, daily 10:00am–3:00pm. Snowshoes and poles are available at the Education Center in adult & youth sizes. Snow permitting. Cost: $10 rental.

Private Tours

Available for groups up to 50 persons from June through early September. The tour will wind through the botanical gardens and end at the  Schoolhouse Gift Shop in the Children’s Garden. You’ll learn about alpine flora and mountain environments, identification, and the history of Betty Ford Alpine Gardens and Vail. 

Tours begin at the Education Center and last roughly one hour.

Pricing: $200
Includes up to 10 people
Each additional guest is $20/person

  • Due to the coordination of tour guides, private tour reservation requests must be made at least 2 weeks in advance.
  • A request does not guarantee a reservation.
  • A 50% nonrefundable deposit is required upon confirmation.
  • Payment is due in full at the time of the tour.
  • Final attendance is required 1 week before the confirmed tour date.
  • Tours occur outdoors. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes; bring sunglasses, sunscreen and water.

Parking: Ford Park Parking Lot is available for non commercial vehicles. Larger vehicles may need to make other arrangements for parking. Please allow 10 minutes for your group to walk from the parking lot to the Education Center.
