Learn and Grow Children's Programs
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens offers guided education programs for children weekly Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30am they run approximately mid-June through mid-August. The programs are led by the garden's Garden and Education Interns and are intended for children ages 5 to 10 years, though there are exceptions. All of the classes meet in our Children's Garden amphitheater and are largely conducted in this garden. A hands-on activity is always an integral part of each program.
In the summer of 2009 the gardens held 10 programs. Some of the highlights were The Need for Seed, It's All in the Dirt, and Journey around the World.
On May 20, 2009, close to 400 third-graders released butterflies they had grown from caterpillars into the garden. This is an annual event at the Garden.
This 2009 summer we invite you to explore our garden with self guided interactive 'Backyard Backpacks' or Play in the Soil at our Children's Gardening Area. The Back to Nature trail is a great place where children can connect with nature in an unstructured environment.
