2009 Internship Opportunity

Located at an altitude of 8,200 feet, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens specializes in alpine plants and native mountain perennials. There are three acres of cultivated gardens surrounded by parkland near Vail Village and at the base of Vail Mountain in Colorado's Gore Range.

Betty Ford Alpine Gardens summer internships are full-time for a minimum of twelve weeks beginning approximately May 24th. One position is available in each of the following categories:

GARDEN AND EDUCATION INTERN

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE INTERN

 

During the twelve weeks that the interns are employed at the Gardens they will learn a wide array of topics.  They will be involved in garden maintenance as well as more behind the scenes.  Some areas of instruction include maintenance, learning to work with volunteers, plant identification, recording and maintaining collection data through BG Base software, seed collecting practices in the wild, implementation of education programs for children and youth, landscape redesign within existing areas in the Gardens, ascertain information surrounding non-profit operations, and training in relation to responsibilities of Botanic Garden Executive Directors.  Also the intern will gain knowledge of the different range of Botanic Gardens through field trips to various gardens within Colorado.
